A wider perspective
An interest in historical racing market data can start with many different questions—about a runner, a race, a price movement or a pattern over time. Whatever your perspective, ExchangeSchema helps you prepare that data for your own exploration. Choose your columns, output profile and sampling options, then work with the resulting Excel or CSV files in your preferred analysis tools. You bring the questions; ExchangeSchema makes the data easier to work with.
From archive to analysis
No coding. No manual archive extraction.
Choose FILE and select your Betfair Historical Data data.tar archive. ExchangeSchema reads the supported files inside it. Already extracted the data? Choose FOLDER instead.
Select the country, market and data tier you want to convert. Mixed archives can contain several datasets; each selected dataset produces a separate output.
Choose your profile and columns. For timelines, keep all available observations or select a sampling interval. Choose Excel or CSV where supported, then set your destination folder.
Follow the progress in the app, then open your exported files. Conversion time depends on the source data, output settings and your computer.
Your columns. Your analysis.
Start with an output profile, then choose the available columns that answer your questions.

Understand your source
Available fields vary by tier and market. Values absent from the source remain blank.
Each selected dataset is exported separately. Tier access depends on your ExchangeSchema access option.
Start with a profile. Select the available columns that matter to you.
One row per runner, with available race details, final result and summary measures.
XLSX or CSVTimestamped runner observations for examining price and market changes.
XLSX or CSVThe broader set of supported fields for each observation, where supplied by the source.
XLSX or CSVAvailable-to-back and available-to-lay price-level changes from Pro data.
CSV onlyA timeline at your chosen interval
Sampling selects from the updates already present in your data.
Choose All Updates (Raw), 1 Second, 5 Seconds, 10 Seconds, 30 Seconds or 1 Minute. Sampled output keeps the last observed runner state within each interval, with its original timestamp. It does not fill gaps or create price bars.
Sampling works with observations already present in your source. It cannot add tick-level detail to a lower-detail archive. Pro Full-Depth Changes always uses raw changes and requires Pro source data.
Take your questions further
Export a Price Timeline with the columns and sampling interval your own spreadsheet, model or backtesting software needs.
Examine available price and volume information. Explore order-book changes with the dedicated Pro Full-Depth Changes CSV output.
Compare results, starting prices and race attributes in Runner Summary, without working through a full timeline.
ExchangeSchema prepares your data for analysis. Strategy testing and interpretation take place in the tools you choose.

A few useful answers
Know what to expect from your data, your exports and your access.
No. Install ExchangeSchema using the Windows installer and open it from its shortcut. Python is included with the app. Use Excel or a compatible application to view XLSX workbooks.
Your racing data is processed locally on your PC. Subscription licence checks use an internet connection; your source archive is not uploaded as part of those checks. Purchased Basic month access works offline once its licence is installed.
You can convert your downloaded racing data for one calendar day, across supported Basic, Advanced and Pro datasets. You can export that same day again as often as you like, trying different profiles, columns and sampling settings.
The day refers to the date of the racing data, not a 24-hour period for using the app. At your first eligible export attempt, the app reserves the earliest scheduled race date in your selection, measured in UTC. Other dates are excluded.
The available detail depends on the data tier and fields supplied for that market. A column can be included in the output even when the source contains no value for it.
Choose Market files, labelled M in the historical download options. ExchangeSchema does not split combined Event files, labelled E, into individual markets.
One purchase lets you convert your downloaded Betfair Basic data for one chosen calendar month and year—for example, January 2026. It covers all supported countries and markets. You can export that month as often as you like, with no expiry.
The month refers to the racing data, not 30 days of app use. You can buy additional months, including months that are not consecutive. Advanced and Pro data require a subscription beyond the trial.
You can select the full archive. In Basic purchase mode, ExchangeSchema converts supported Basic markets covered by the months you own and excludes the rest. You do not need to split the archive yourself.
For example, if your download contains January, February and March 2026 and you own January 2026, only January’s eligible markets are converted. Dates are based on each market’s scheduled start in UTC. The full available history for each included market is retained.
Your exported spreadsheets remain usable. Any Basic calendar months you have purchased retain their separate conversion access. Uninstalling the app or deactivating its licence does not cancel subscription billing.
An internet connection is required for activation and at the start of each export batch. The conversion of your racing data still takes place locally on your PC.
